The Research

Early in 2004-06, I helped coordinate and consult on a study on CranioSacral Therapy and its effect on Alzheimer’s and Dementia. The results showed significant clinical and statistical significance, and an improvement in memory and a decrease in agitation of the patients studied. It was published in the American Journal of Gerontological Nursing in 2008.

The Theory

Our theory is simply that as aging progresses, there is a decrease in the flow of CerebralSpinal Fluid or CSF  in most adults. In people with senile dementia, this flow is even more significantly reduced, as much as 75% less than in a normal adult

It is thought that CranioSacral Therapy (CST) helps to increase this flow back to normal levels, resulting in flushing and removing toxicity in the brain, which explains an increase in cognitive function and a decrease in agitation.

BodyEnergy Company

Hello. I am Michael Morgan LMT, CST-D, the founder of BodyEnergy Company and an instructor of CranioSacral Therapy, as developed by Dr. John Upledger. I have spent the last several years studying the effect of CranioSacral Therapy on Alzheimer’s and Dementia, and the following is a brief overview of the BodyEnergy Longevity Prescription, a formula that combines CranioSacral Therapy (CST), diet and exercise into a program designed to help prevent and even reverse the effects of early to mid-stage Dementia and Alzheimer’s.

Diet

Many researchers are now pointing to improper diet as a contributor to Alzheimer’s, helping to coin the term “Alzheimer’s as type 3 diabetes”. I have noticed in my research that as many as 40% of all Alzheimer’s patients have diabetes. This observation led me to research the influence of  inflammation in the body (what I call the diseases of aging) which can “overflow” into inflammation in the brain.

Researchers such as Mark Hyman, David Perlmutter, William Davis and Daniel Amen have made many of the same observations. Our approach is to promote a healthy diet and lifestyle in concert with regular CST.

Exercise

All of the researchers above, as well as the American Alzheimer’s Association, recommend regular exercise as a preventative measure. Among many benefits, regular exercise helps reduce C reactive protein, one of the markers for diabetes.

Classes

CranioSacral for Longevity-Applications for the treatment of Alzheimers and Dementia This 2-day class, having no prerequisites, is for laypersons, caregivers, children of Alzheimer’s patients, spouses and therapists working at independent living and senior care facilities. Using some simple CranioSacral Techniques, students will learn a 15-minute protocol that they can immediately apply to their loved ones and patients.  (Class now available for in-house staff training at senior care facilities.) For more information, click here or watch this video.

CranioSacral for Longevity-Applications for Prevention This 2-day class, having no prerequisites, is for laypersons, caregivers, children of parents who would like to offer support, and most importantly, for those over 50 who are well and healthy and would like to maintain their good health.

This class teaches how to use simple CranioSacral therapy techniques to help prevent the “diseases of aging” and combat changes to memory and cognition. The class also offers resources related to diet and exercise, part of the The BodyEnergy Longevity Prescripton, that helps maintain our good health, no matter what our age.

At the end of the class, participants have the option of joining a Longevity Support Group, where participants can practice the techniques they have learned on each other and form local communities for ongoing support.

CranioSacral Therapy for Longevity for Senior Healthcare Professionals
One and two day CSLSHP

This is a one and two day training designed specifically for healthcare workers addressing the entire range of senior care-independent living, at home services, assisted living, skilled nursing and memory care. Senior Healthcare Professionals include nursing home administrators, medical directors, memory care directors, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and staff and care workers at any level of senior care. Hands on training and explanation of the evidence based research component of CranioSacral Therapy and its application for prevention and reversal of Alzheimer’s and Dementia. You will learn techniques that can be immediately applied in an institutional setting.
